Buying B2B leads can save your sales team weeks of research. It can also waste money if the list is generic, outdated or shared with your competitors. Check these seven points before you pay.
1. Does every company fit your ideal customer?
Ask the provider how the list is built. A good list starts from your criteria: industry, company size, country and the kind of customer that already buys from you.
2. Is there a real decision-maker?
A company name with a generic info@ address is not a lead. Look for the owner, the head of purchasing or the person who signs off budgets.
3. Where do the e-mail addresses come from?
Addresses guessed from a pattern ([email protected]) bounce and damage your sender reputation. Prefer addresses the company published itself, with the type marked: personal or general.
4. How fresh is the data?
People change jobs and companies close. Ask when each contact was checked and whether outdated contacts are replaced.
5. Is the list exclusive?
If the same list is sold to ten companies, your message arrives as the tenth. Exclusive leads cost more but convert better.
6. Can the provider name the source?
Under GDPR you have to tell the person where you got their data. A serious provider gives the source of every contact.
7. Can you test before you buy?
A free sample is the easiest way to judge quality. If a provider will not show a sample, be careful.
